Open to all Knights players, we are meeting once a week over Zoom for 11 weeks to discuss topics from the book "Lead Like Jesus". Coach Sweet will send out a video and some scripture passages and then we will briefly discuss during the Zoom call.
Jesus and the Discipline of Prayer and Meditation, Psalm 1:1-3, Luke 5:15-16, Luke 6:12-13, Philippians 4:6-8
For this week of spiritual leadership, we consider the role of prayer, solitude, and meditation. The Bible contains several texts on the need and benefit of the personal devotional life. By devotional life, we mean personal prayer, scripture reading, and meditation that marks the regular and purposeful experience of the follower of Christ. We see in Luke 5 and 6 that Jesus spent time in solitude, praying. What is the primary need and benefit for us in following His example? What does a meaningful devotional time look like and what challenges do we face in maintaining a consistent devotional life? How does devotional time impact spiritual leadership?
Personal Integrity in Leadership in the Face of Populism, John 2:23-25, Luke 4:14-30, John 6:60-69
Why did Jesus, at so many moments in His life, seem to resist being popular? Consider Luke 4:14-30 and John 2:23-25 as you consider your thoughts on this. If that’s the case with Jesus, what are the implications for us? What is the draw of being popular and why can it be a barrier to providing good leadership? How does the model that Jesus provided of investing much of His time in a small group of followers instead of using his influence over large crowds guide our approach to leadership?
We will be working through the book of Ephesians at our practices this fall covering Ephesians 2 on Tuesdays and Ephesians 4 on Thursdays. Pastor Sweet has written a 63 day devotional guide covering the entirety of Ephesians. It is available in EPUB or PDF and you can follow these instructions to transfer the book to your Kindle device or reading app.
